Our own Organic Ellan Farm wins the IFWG Environmental Award 2025

Master Chefs is delighted to announce that our organic Ellan Farm has been awarded the prestigious Environmental Award 2025 by the Irish Food Writers’ Guild.  The Guild awards are one of the most enduring and respected events of its kind in Ireland.  Launched in 1993 with a simple aim: to celebrate indigenous Irish food products of the highest quality, as well as to recognise some of the individuals, companies and initiatives which continue to make the Irish food story such an exciting one.

Ellan Farm, set within 20 acres of the beautiful Ballyneety countryside in Co. Limerick, was conceived with a bold vision—to redefine how food is sourced, produced and utilised in a large-scale catering business.  This ambitious project aims to address the fundamental challenges in food sustainability and procurement, ensuring that every aspect of the process aligns with our ethos of environmental responsibility and culinary excellence.

At Ellan Farm, we are forging the future of food production, combining traditional farming practices with forward-thinking sustainability measures.  The goal is to provide sustainably produced, organic food to our clients while minimising waste through a circular approach.

Beyond cultivation, we are deeply invested in food waste reduction and preservation techniques, such as fermentation, to ensure year-round availability of seasonal produce.  Our vision extends far beyond supply; we are working towards making Ellan Farm a centre of food excellence, where chefs, food professionals and communities can come together to learn, innovate and set new industry standards for responsible food production and consumption.

The Irish Food Writers’ Guild commended Ellan Farm for its pioneering approach:

Ellan Farm is setting a new standard for catering in Ireland with their farm-to-table-back-to-farm approach and, in such uncertain times for hospitality, agriculture, and climate, we should celebrate a business which is intentionally placing community, environment, nutrition, and flavour before profit.
— Paula McIntyre, Chair, Irish Food Writers Guild

This award reflects the collective effort of our dedicated team, partners and suppliers, who share our ambition to create a more sustainable and responsible food industry.  We are proud to be recognised for our efforts and look forward to expanding our vision, pushing the boundaries of sustainable catering and inspiring others to adopt more ethical and environmentally conscious food practices.

“We are absolutely thrilled to receive such prestigious recognition so early in our farm journey. I am hugely appreciative of the team around me, Shirley Morrow, our Organics Specialist, Michelle O Donnell, Head of Culinary & all who contribute daily to making Master Chefs such a special organisation, words fail to do justice to their monumental efforts.”

Pat O’ Sullivan, CEO, Master Chefs
